Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy or OT, as it is often referred to, focuses on helping children to achieve independence in all areas of their lives; playing and learning, school performance and daily activities. Occupational Therapy can help children with various needs improve their cognitive, physical and motor skills enhancing their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. Support might be provided via advice, programmes, individual or group therapy sessions.

A Paediatric Physiotherapist can help your child develop motor skills, give advice to help with management of tone/ movement disorders and provide treatment strategies to assist in regaining/ improving functional abilities to help your child reach their full potential. The Therapist will assess your child’s needs and based on the results they will receive a package of care. This may include any or all of the following: ¬†therapy sessions, physical activity programmes for home and school, advice, review sessions or equipment provision.

Speech and Language Therapy

A Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) can help your child develop their speech clarity, understanding and use of spoken language and ability to communicate to their full potential. They can also help your child develop their ability to swallow safely.

The Therapist will explore your child’s skills using observation and assessment tasks. They will then offer a package of care, if appropriate, to help you support your child’s speech, language, communication or swallowing skills. This may include one or more of the following: advice, strategies, targets, review appointments, therapy sessions.
